Social and financial barriers may contribute to a "hidden mortality" in Uganda for children with congenital anomalies

This qualitative study of 198 Ugandans reveals profound social and economic barriers preventing families from seeking surgical care for children with congenital anomalies. Financial constraints, stigma, and cultural beliefs contribute to unreported deaths, suggesting the true disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa is significantly underestimated.
