Topic overview
Systematic review of 197 neonates across 11 studies shows mucous fistula refeeding is generally safe and may accelerate weight gain, reduce parenteral nutrition dependence, and improve outcomes after stoma reversal in short bowel syndrome. No standardized protocol exists internationally, and prospective studies are needed.
