Helicopter transport in pediatric trauma: A new methodology using Need for Surgeon Presence to evaluate the necessity of air transport

This study proposes a novel 'Need for Surgeon Presence' matrix to evaluate appropriate helicopter transport utilization for pediatric trauma patients from injury scenes. Using 2016 TQIP data, researchers identified clinical indicators requiring immediate surgical intervention to better guide air transport decisions and optimize trauma system resource allocation.
