A clinical prediction model for complicated appendicitis in children younger than five years of age

This study developed and validated a clinical prediction model to differentiate simple from complicated appendicitis in children under five years old. Using age, white blood cell count, and symptom duration, the model achieved superior diagnostic accuracy (AUC 0.830) compared to existing scoring systems, offering clinicians a practical tool for risk stratification in this challenging age group.
