Meaningful viscoelastic abnormalities in abusive and non-abusive pediatric trauma
Topic overview
This retrospective study of 41 pediatric trauma patients found that abused children demonstrate a hypercoagulable pattern on thrombelastography compared to accidentally injured children, with significantly shorter R-times and increased alpha angles. An abnormal alpha angle was independently associated with abuse, while abnormal MA predicted mortality.
