Mitigating disparity in children with acute appendicitis: impact of patient driven protocols

Evidence-based patient-driven protocol for pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy successfully eliminates racial and ethnic disparities in post-operative length of stay and same-day discharge rates, despite Hispanic children presenting with higher perforation rates. Study of 786 children demonstrates that standardized protocols can mitigate healthcare inequities in surgical outcomes.
