Do Antibiotics Reduce the Incidence of Infections After Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Placement in Children?

This retrospective study of 297 pediatric PEG placements found prophylactic antibiotics did not reduce wound infections but were associated with less fever and leakage, shorter hospital stays, yet increased overgranulation. The findings challenge current pediatric guidelines and highlight the need for a randomized trial.
