The shock index, pediatric age-adjusted (SIPA) enhanced: Prehospital and emergency department SIPA values forecast transfusion needs for blunt solid organ injured children

Study of 477 pediatric patients demonstrates that elevated Shock Index Pediatric-Adjusted (SIPA) scores in prehospital or emergency department settings accurately predict which children with blunt liver or spleen injuries will require blood transfusion, with 8-fold increased odds when SIPA is elevated in either setting.
