Lysosomal overloading and necrotizing enterocolitis

This experimental study demonstrates that necrotizing enterocolitis triggers excessive autophagy and endocytosis in premature intestinal epithelium, causing lysosomal overload and rupture that leads to cell death. The findings suggest therapeutic strategies targeting lysosomal degradation capacity may reduce NEC severity.
