Choledochal Cysts Resected during Childhood Show No Mutations of KRAS and BRAF as Early Markers of Malignancy in Cholangiocytes

Retrospective study of 42 pediatric choledochal cyst resections found no KRAS or BRAF mutations despite frequent inflammatory changes, suggesting early surgical excision prevents malignant transformation. Median age at surgery was 2.4 years, with mutation analysis negative in all 22 tested cases, supporting current practice of early resection to reduce cancer risk.
