Association of hospital and surgeon operative volumes and surgeon pediatric subspecialization with pediatric laparoscopic cholecystectomy outcomes: A population-based cohort study

Population-based study of 5,391 children demonstrates that high-volume hospitals performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy achieve lower 30-day readmission rates (10.8% vs 13.7%) regardless of whether the operating surgeon is an adult general surgeon or pediatric subspecialist. Findings suggest hospital procedural volume is a stronger predictor of outcomes than surgeon pediatric subspecialization for this common procedure.
