Partial Biliary Diversion May Promote Long-Term Relief of Pruritus and Native Liver Survival in Children with Cholestatic Liver Diseases

Twenty-five-year Nordic multicenter study of 33 children with cholestatic liver disease demonstrates partial biliary diversion can provide long-term pruritus relief and delay transplantation, though stoma complications requiring reoperation are common (55%). Early postoperative bile acid levels predict treatment success, with significantly lower levels in responders versus non-responders.
