A baseline assessment of enhanced recovery protocol implementation at pediatric surgery practices performing inflammatory bowel disease operations

This multi-center survey assessed baseline enhanced recovery protocol (ERP) implementation across 18 pediatric surgery departments performing IBD operations, finding an average of only 6.3 out of 21 evidence-based elements in use. Surgeon-controlled interventions like minimally invasive techniques showed high adoption (100%), while system-level changes such as patient education and preoperative optimization had minimal implementation, highlighting barriers to comprehensive ERP adoption in pediatric IBD surgery.
