Inappropriate referrals in pediatric surgery

This retrospective study of 509 pediatric surgery referrals found that 19% were inappropriate, with higher rates from mid-level and non-pediatric providers. Female and younger patients were more likely to receive inappropriate referrals, traveling an average of 58 miles for unnecessary consultations.
