Primary care faecal calprotectin testing in children with suspected inflammatory bowel disease: a diagnostic accuracy study

This prospective study of 195 children demonstrates that faecal calprotectin testing in primary care accurately identifies inflammatory bowel disease with 100% sensitivity and 91% specificity at a 100 µg/g cut-off. The test reduced unnecessary secondary care referrals while maintaining diagnostic safety, supporting its use as a primary care screening tool for suspected pediatric IBD.
