Immune function and infectious complications in children with jejunoileal atresia

This retrospective study of 27 children with intestinal atresia found significant immune dysfunction in both isolated and multiple atresia cases, with over half showing low CD counts and frequent bacteremia. The findings suggest routine immunologic screening should be performed in all intestinal atresia patients in rehabilitation programs, not just those with multiple atresias, to enable early intervention and improve outcomes including post-transplant survival.
