Safety of Veress needle for laparoscopic entry in children: Myth or reality?

This 14-year retrospective study of 3,463 pediatric laparoscopic procedures found Veress needle entry combined with radially expanding trocars to be safe, with only 0.06% bowel injury rate and no vascular complications. Prior abdominal surgery significantly increased bowel injury risk, suggesting open approach may be preferable in these patients.
