Development and validation of bile acid profile-based scoring system for identification of biliary atresia: a prospective study

Researchers developed and validated a bile acid-based scoring system to distinguish biliary atresia from other causes of infantile cholestasis. The system combines glycochenodeoxycholic acid/chenodeoxycholic acid ratio, clay stool presence, and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels, achieving 90% sensitivity and 80% specificity in validation testing.
