Neurodevelopmental and growth outcomes of extremely preterm infants with necrotizing enterocolitis or spontaneous intestinal perforation
Topic overview
This Canadian cohort study of 2,019 extremely preterm infants (<29 weeks GA) found that spontaneous intestinal perforation, necrotizing enterocolitis, and bowel perforation significantly increase the risk of death or neurodevelopmental impairment at 18-24 months corrected age, with any perforation conferring nearly 4-fold higher odds.
