Point-of-care ultrasound may be useful for detecting pediatric intussusception at an early stage
Topic overview
This retrospective study of 549 pediatric patients demonstrates that point-of-care ultrasound performed by emergency physicians using broader clinical criteria achieves 100% sensitivity for detecting intussusception at early stages (mean 11.7h symptom duration). Early detection enabled successful air enema reduction in 97% of cases.
