Novel insights into the histology of jejunoileal atresia and its therapeutic implications

Histological analysis of 32 jejunoileal atresia specimens reveals that 84% show no major morphological abnormalities in the proximal dilated bowel, contradicting earlier studies. Interstitial cell of Cajal counts did not correlate with time to full enteral nutrition, supporting bowel plication over extensive resection as the preferred surgical approach.
