Physician perspectives on discussions with parents of infants with suspected ureteropelvic junction obstruction

Qualitative study of 13 pediatric urologists reveals that treatment recommendations for infant UPJ obstruction are influenced by gaps in evidence-based data, leading physicians to rely on personal experience. Physicians tailor discussions based on parental education, language barriers, and perceived risk of loss to follow-up, suggesting implicit consideration of socioeconomic factors that may contribute to treatment variation.
