Survey of 518 APSA members reveals that 52% routinely obtain chest radiographs after image-guided central venous line placement in children, despite evidence questioning this practice's utility. The discordance between evidence and practice appears driven by medicolegal concerns and institutional standards rather than clinical factors, with practice patterns showing no correlation to surgeon experience or volume.
