Retrospective study comparing total versus subtotal splenectomy outcomes in 63 hereditary spherocytosis patients shows both approaches effectively increase hemoglobin levels, with subtotal splenectomy offering comparable hematologic improvement while preserving splenic tissue to reduce infection risk, particularly in pediatric cases.
