A novel and simple machine learning algorithm for preoperative diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children

Retrospective study of 7,244 pediatric patients demonstrates a decision tree machine learning algorithm can detect acute appendicitis with 94.69% accuracy and differentiate uncomplicated from complicated cases. The model uses preoperative blood analysis and demographics to reduce unnecessary operations and support nonoperative management decisions.
