A Nationwide Enumeration of Operations Performed for Pediatric Patients in Ghana

This nationwide study quantifies pediatric surgical capacity in Ghana, finding only 284 operations per 100,000 children annually—just 7% of estimated need compared to high-income benchmarks. Two-thirds were essential procedures performed primarily at district hospitals, with significant gaps in congenital surgery highlighting the need for pediatric-specific capacity building in LMIC healthcare systems.
