Critical care resource use, cost, and mortality associated with firearm-related injuries in US children's hospitals

This retrospective cohort study analyzed 14 years of data from 28 US children's hospitals, finding that firearm injuries requiring PICU admission are associated with high resource utilization and costs (median $37,569). Nearly 30% of pediatric firearm injury admissions required intensive care, with increasing use of mechanical ventilation, surgical interventions, and blood transfusions over the study period.
