First national survey on opioids prescribing practices of Canadian pediatric surgeons

This national survey of Canadian pediatric surgeons (n=58, 84% response rate) found that opioids were commonly prescribed after both minor (33%) and major (73%) surgeries, with significant gaps in formal training for surgeons and patient education at discharge. The findings highlight the need for standardized opioid prescribing protocols and enhanced education in pediatric surgical pain management.
