Insufflation in minimally invasive surgery: Is there any advantage in staying low?

Published: Reading: 1 min

Topic overview

Retrospective study of 54 neonates demonstrates that lower CO2 insufflation pressures during minimally invasive repair of esophageal atresia and congenital diaphragmatic hernia significantly reduce hypercapnia and acidosis without prolonging operative time. Findings support adopting lower pressure protocols to improve intraoperative physiologic stability in neonatal thoracoscopic procedures.
