Progression to colectomy in the era of biologics: A single center experience with pediatric ulcerative colitis

Published: Reading: 1 min

Topic overview

This retrospective study of 217 pediatric UC patients at Texas Children's Hospital (2003-2015) found a 12.9% colectomy rate at 5 years despite infliximab use in 39% of cases. Children with left-sided colitis (E2) and those on steroid monotherapy progressed to surgery faster, while females and children under 5 responded poorly to infliximab.
