Ostomy in continuity: A novel approach for the management of children with complex short bowel syndrome

Novel surgical approach using ostomy in continuity (Bishop-Koop or Santulli) as salvage procedure for children with refractory short bowel syndrome. Retrospective study of 16 patients demonstrated significant improvements in enteral tolerance, growth parameters, and liver function while achieving intestinal autonomy without need for transplantation.
