Laparoscopic ligation of splenic vessels for the treatment of hereditary spherocytosis in children

This study describes laparoscopic ligation of splenic vessels as a spleen-preserving alternative to total splenectomy in 17 children with hereditary spherocytosis. The procedure achieved significant improvements in blood parameters while maintaining partial splenic function, potentially reducing post-splenectomy infection risk.
