Seasonal variations in the occurrence of acute appendicitis and their relationship with the presence of fecaliths in children.

Retrospective study of 171 pediatric appendectomy patients reveals higher incidence of acute appendicitis during summer months, with significantly fewer fecalith-associated cases compared to non-summer periods (33.6% vs 55.7%). Findings suggest summer surge may be driven by lymphoid hyperplasia related to seasonal enterovirus outbreaks rather than fecalith obstruction.
