Outcome of peroral endoscopic myotomy in children with achalasia.
Topic overview
This prospective study evaluates POEM as treatment for achalasia in 43 pediatric patients, demonstrating 97.7% technical success and sustained clinical success rates above 83% at 4-year follow-up. While POEM proves safe and effective in children, post-procedure gastroesophageal reflux occurred in over half of patients, warranting careful monitoring.
