Surgical treatment of awn aspiration causing bronchopleural fistula and bronchiectasis: case reports.

Two pediatric cases demonstrate the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of grass awn aspiration, where initial negative bronchoscopy and symptom resolution masked progressive pulmonary inflammation. Delayed complications including bronchopleural fistula and bronchiectasis ultimately required surgical resection (lobectomy/segmentectomy) after failed conservative management, highlighting the need for vigilant long-term follow-up in suspected cases.
