The value of failure to rescue in determining hospital quality for pediatric trauma.

National database study of 125,057 pediatric trauma patients reveals that unlike adult trauma care, hospital quality differences are driven more by complication prevention than by failure-to-rescue rates. Low-mortality hospitals achieved better outcomes primarily through lower complication rates rather than superior rescue of patients who developed complications.
