Inflicted versus unintentional injury: towards improved detection and surveillance of supervisory neglect

Retrospective study of 1,185 pediatric patients uses text analytics to classify supervisory neglect patterns in unintentional injuries, identifying five distinct categories including interrupted supervision and failure to adapt the home environment. Findings demonstrate that supervisory neglect is strongly associated with mechanism-consistent injuries and propose improved detection methods for child protection surveillance systems.
