Long-Term Results after Diversion Surgery in Extrahepatic Portal Vein Obstruction

Long-term outcomes of diversion surgery for extrahepatic portal vein obstruction in children show mesoportal Rex shunt superior to other portosystemic shunts. Significant improvements include increased platelet counts and prothrombin activity, reduced splenomegaly, and dramatic reduction in gastrointestinal bleeding from 94% to 12% of patients.
