Malnutrition increases the risk of 30-day complications after surgery in pediatric patients with Crohn disease

Retrospective analysis of 516 pediatric Crohn disease patients undergoing bowel surgery demonstrates that malnutrition severity correlates with increased 30-day complication rates, ranging from 9.7% in well-nourished patients to 28.6% in severely malnourished patients. Study utilized NSQIP-Pediatric data and CDC growth charts to stratify malnutrition severity.
