Management of pediatric appendiceal carcinoid: a single institution experience from 5000 appendectomies
Topic overview
Retrospective review of 5,059 pediatric appendectomies identified 32 appendiceal carcinoids (0.3% incidence), predominantly in adolescent females with non-perforated appendicitis. Most tumors were small and treated with appendectomy alone, though 38% required ileocolic resection based on size, invasiveness, or margin status.
