A multicenter study of primary liver transplantation for biliary atresia in Japan

This nationwide Japanese registry study examines rare cases where primary liver transplantation was performed instead of the standard Kasai portoenterostomy for biliary atresia. Late diagnosis was the predominant reason for bypassing Kasai, occurring in less than 1% of cases with favorable transplant outcomes.
