A tiered approach to optimize pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy outcomes

This retrospective study of 970 pediatric appendectomies demonstrates that single-incision (SILS) and dual-incision (DILS) laparoscopic techniques achieve equivalent clinical outcomes to traditional three-incision approaches while significantly reducing operative costs and OR time. A tiered approach starting with SILS could save approximately $75,000 annually at high-volume centers.
