Hospital type predicts computed tomography use for pediatric appendicitis

Study of 17,998 pediatric appendectomy patients reveals that initial presentation at non-children's hospitals is the strongest predictor of CT use (OR 9.4), despite guidelines recommending ultrasound first. Transferred patients are frequently reimaged at receiving facilities, and CT utilization remains high at 25% in NSQIP-P hospitals without recent reduction.
