Sternal torsion in pectus excavatum is related to cardiac compression and chest malformation indexes

This study of 116 pectus excavatum patients demonstrates that sternal torsion correlates with both chest malformation severity and cardiac compression. Right-sided sternal torsion was significantly associated with greater cardiac compression and reduced tricuspid-to-mitral annulus ratio, suggesting sternal rotation may be an important factor in surgical planning.
