Screening for blunt cerebrovascular injuries in pediatric trauma patients

This retrospective study of 776,355 pediatric trauma patients demonstrates that adult Denver/Memphis screening criteria for blunt cerebrovascular injuries result in 97.4% unnecessary CT angiograms in children. The authors identify skull base fractures, cervical spine injuries, and cranial nerve deficits as higher-yield indicators for pediatric BCVI screening.
