Outcomes of infants born at 23 and 24 weeks' gestation with gut perforation

Retrospective 16-year study of 198 infants born at 23-24 weeks' gestation found that 46% of those developing gut perforation (NEC or SIP) survived to discharge, with over half showing no/mild disability at 2-3 years. Results support integrated medical-surgical care in tertiary NICUs rather than gestational age-based treatment protocols.
