Efficacy of surveillance ultrasound for venous thromboembolism diagnosis in critically ill children after trauma

Study of 112 critically injured children at high risk for both VTE and bleeding found 25% developed VTE after 7+ ICU days. Surveillance ultrasound detected DVT earlier than guideline-recommended timing, supporting proactive screening in this population when pharmacologic prophylaxis is contraindicated.
