Long-term follow-up of pediatric open and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair

Large retrospective study comparing open versus laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in 1697 children found significantly lower rates of metachronous contralateral hernias with laparoscopic approach (0.9%) and open with exploration (0.7%) versus open unilateral without exploration (3.8%), supporting routine contralateral assessment.
