Surgical modifications of the Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy minimize invasiveness without compromising short- and medium-term outcomes

Modified Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy using a smaller incision with the liver remaining in situ achieved equivalent short- and medium-term outcomes compared to traditional technique in 99 biliary atresia patients. Native liver survival, overall survival, and transplant rates were statistically similar between groups, suggesting the less invasive approach may reduce scarring while maintaining efficacy.
