<p>In this video, the surgical treatment of inguinal hernia in a 3 week old girl is demonstrated. The main focus of this video is to illustrate how to ligate and divide the hernial sac at the proper neck through a limited lower abdominal crease incision. The surgical treatment of inguinal hernia in small babies should be performed once the diagnosis has been made. The operative steps and tissue planes are clearly demonstrated. Palpating the hernial sac helps in its location and grasping. The sac and its coverings are bluntly dissected and exteriorized. The coverings are peeled off the sac until the extra peritoneal fat is reached. The apex of the external inguinal ring is grasped. The sac is open to check for a sliding thalope and tube. The round ligament is clearly seen. No tube is found. The sac is twisted and transfixed at the proper neck. 4-O absorbable suture is used.
